Hitchin Harriers U9 v Shefford U9

Saturday, October 20 2007

The Harriers started the game strong pushing forward probing the Shefford defences. A link up of passes in the third minute from Joe to Tom to Juan resulted in the first goal of the match [1-0].

This was quickly followed by a Juan cross to Tom unfortunately his shot was just over the bar. Shefford however did not want to roll over and quickly responded with an attack of their own resulting in a diving save from Ryan to push the ball away, quickly followed up by a second save to claim the ball. A run by Tom down the wing resulted in a perfectly crossed ball that ran straight across the goal mouth. Elliot however was too far forward to get to the ball. A long throw from Joe into the mid field allowed Juan a clear shot on goal which was saved by the keeper. Shefford eventually broke through the Harriers defence and as three strikers descended on Ryan, Shefford finally got the equaliser they were looking for to make it [1-1]. I believe this was the first goal conceded by Ryan this season.

The second half again saw the Harriers pushing forward with Elliot getting a shot that was just right of the post. A long throw from Joe gave Elliot another chance and this time his shot was deflected by the keeper. Another shot from Elliot was deflected and Tom followed the ball in to put the Harriers back in front [2-1]. Tom once again pushed through the Shefford midfield and this time a slipped pass was picked up by Joe and a defender as they both slid the ball into the net [3-1]. Another cross from Tom to Joe allowed Joe to blast the ball straight passed the keeper to make it [4-1]. As Joe and Tom came off to rest Shefford picked up the pace and a long shot sailed over Ryans head to make it [4-2]. Joe returned to the fray as the Harriers were about to defend against a Shefford corner and in the process of trying to clear the ball managed to head the ball into his own goal [4-3]. As the referee blew for the end of the match a relieved Harriers team retired to celebrate.
