Hitchin Hawks U9 v Melbourn U9

Saturday, October 27 2007

Once again the Hawks sat back for the first few opening minutes of the game, weighting up their opponents.

During this time Melbourn showed that they had very good passing ability and put the Hawks under considerable pressure. A long kick from Ali managed to find Tyler on the wing, after a short run he had an excellent shot on goal to make it [1-0]. Melbourn kept up the pressure and were eventually rewarded as they weaved through the Hawks defence to make it [1-1]. The game was played at a frantic pace with both sides playing well. A Ben cross in the last minute of the first half allowed Elliot a chance with his head, unfortunately the shot was just over the bar. The first half was very evenly matched and 1-1 was a fair result so far…

The second half continued at the same pace as the first half as both teams pushed forward and had their chances. Tyler had a shot from the wing forcing a save from the keeper. A strong run by the Melbourn number 9 saw him beat three Hitchin players, a final turn into the centre resulting in their second goal [1-2]. The Hawks were not disheartened however and continued to create chances. A cross by Ben across the goal mouth was narrowly missed by Elliot. A Tyler corner found Elliot’s head but the ball went just over the bar. There was a goal mouth scramble as the ball was pinged in and out of the Melbourn box which was eventually cleared. A Ben weaving run through the Melbourn defence finally brought the scores level [2-2]. Ben’s tenacity continued as he seemed determined not to let the Hawks suffer their first defeat of the season. A beautiful run between Ben and Elliot saw an Elliot shot rebounded off the post which was then clinically put away by Ben [3-2].

Hawks: Alistair Moatt; Ryan Cafferkey; George Fitter; Tyler Gray; Ben Wilmot; George Rodger; Elliot Willoughby; Ed Routh.
