Hitchin Harriers U9 v Melbourn U9

Saturday, October 27 2007

The Harriers started the game lively, an early run down the wing from Zac saw an excellent pass to Matthew who's shot on goal forced a save from the keeper.

The Harriers continued to apply the pressure and a casual tap by Joe into the left corner opened up the scoring [1-0]. A shot by Tom was saved by the Melbourn keeper who was not afraid to come out and save the ball at the player’s feet. A Melbourn striker managed to get a shot in as Ryan got his hands to the ball, the shot fortunately went wide. Matthew had a strong run through midfield from defence, and managed to get in a shot that just went over the bar. As the Harriers continued to create chances a pass from Joe was struck cleanly by  Matthew to make it [2-0] (his first goal for the Harriers). A left footed shot from Tom just before half time added to the tally to make it [3-0]. Excellent defensive work by both Daniel and the master of all football positions, Juan.

The second half started with the Harriers again pushing forward, a Juan cross to Zac allowing for a shot on goal that was just lifted over the bar. A Melbourn free kick on the edge of the box forced a desperate save from Ryan and the ball was eventually cleared. A shot from Juan on the edge of the box was just wide of the mark. A Joe corner picked up by Daniel allowed him to have a shot that was just right of the post. In the closing minutes of the game a Melbourn shot was cruelly deflected off the post.
