Bishops Stortford Athletic U14 v Hitchin Town Youth Colts U14

Sunday, October 7 2007

A week previously the Colts drew one all in the league at home against a Stortford team. This weekend they were away to face another Stortford team in the first round of the county cup.

It took five minutes for the Hitchin team to start bossing the game. Jack E knocked the ball across the box for Jordan to shoot. The keeper did well to block but Joe M was there to tap home.

Shortly afterwards Sam was unlucky not to score with a fine shot from distance. The Colts were now growing in confidence on the ball with sustained spells of fine passing. Twenty minutes in and Jack P sent a ball through the Stortford defence for Lewis to chase and slip coolly past the outcoming keeper.

Sam was unlucky again, heading a chip from Tom over the bar. Will showed composure and strength against several defenders to put a fine cross into the box but a tangle on the goal line saw Joe S and Lewis just unable to foil the keeper.

As Hitchin’s dominance grew towards the break, Dan saw a shot glance off the cross bar. A fine goal line clearance by a Stortford defender was just one of several occasions when Hitchin’s attack was blunted just as goals looked inevitable. And more did come. Lewis got a second but only on his third attempt to knock the ball past Stortford’s keeper from point blank.

Ten minutes from the end Hitchin got a fourth from the penalty spot – a well taken kick from George.

But Stortford kept on playing and in the last five minutes of the match showed great determination with three shots that, on another day, might have given Louis in the Hitchin goal something to worry about.

Result: Bishops Stortford Athletic 0 – 4 Hitchin Town Youth Colts
