Hitchin Town Youth U15 v Belstone Youth U15

Sunday, January 6 2008

The U15's were drawn at home for the 4th Round of the County Cup this weekend. Both Hitchin and Belstone had a good run up to this game with some good wins under their belts.

The game started well with both sides pushing to get the opening goal. Midfielders Jordan Armstrong, Kyle Ronald, Josh Cook and Gareth Hedges dominated play and were strong and first to every ball with great passing movement.

Bryn Reynolds started off in goal, as our regular goalie was 'en route!'  Luckily the strong defence of Aaron Goldsmith, Matt Morley, Josh Millett and Matt Aherne minimised the amount of work Bryn had to do.

After some great footwork Hitchin pushed forward and after some fantastic one touch football Liam Toomey opened the scoreline to give us the lead 1-0. The partnership of Michael Evans and Liam Toomey was a joy to watch, Michael had a fantastic game and seemed to be everywhere picking up balls and passing to Liam. Belstone did well in the middle of the park and themselves had some good passing football but Hitchin were reluctant to lose the ball and after a strong run through midfield Gareth Hedges smashed the ball into the visitors net giving us a 2-0 lead going into half time.

Once James Holland (Goalie) had arrived Bryn was bought back on pitch to his regular position and dominated play alongside Liam.

Belstone Youth seemed to pick up a gear and had a few attempts at goal only to be denied by James. Changes were made to the team which saw Ross Bates and Danny Blanchard come on in Midfield, both of whom were dominant in their respective positions. Hitchin Town were indeed the stronger side throughout this game and after a fantastic run from defence Ross Bates fought through the visitor’s midfield to smash the ball over the goal keeper into the top right hand corner. 3-0

Belstone did well to fight on and after good movement in midfield they were rewarded with a goal. 3-1.

Hitchin Town stepped up a gear which allowed Bryn Reynolds to take advantage of the bad pitch and see the ball bobble under the visitors keeper. 4-1

This was a great game which was physical and fast flowing.  Hitchin were the better side on the day who played some good football.Through to the Quarter Finals once again....long may it continue.

Well done lads you played well and deserved the win

Result: Hitchin Town Youth 4 Belstone Youth 1
