Hitchin have completed a tremendous season of progress by finishing second in the Royston Crow's top division, thanks to a resounding win over Baldock.
By winning their last game, the U13s left Broadhall having to win next weekend to pip them to the title. The Stevenage side are expected to do just that but, whatever happens, Hitchin have at the very least risen from seventh last year to second this term.
By beating fellow high-fliers Baldock, Hitchin finished with a record of 20 wins, two draws and just two defeats from 24 games.
The final victory was set up following a tremendous performance at Purwell Lane.
Baldock's fine keeper had made a wonder double save before Rhys Dainton eventually stabbed in the opener after an excellent Ollie Payne corner, only for Baldock to level soon after.
A fortunate penalty then gave Luke Stanton the chance to put the home side ahead 2-1 before the break.
In the second half, it was a good game but largely comfortable for Hitchin as Rhys and and Ross Maddox poached two more goals from Kier Boyd corners to make it 4-1.
All the boys in the squad deserve huge praise and hopefully a big crowd will come along to the presentation day on June 5th to applaud them all.
The squad in full this season has been Luke McCabe, Simmy Dhillon, Alfie Dinsey, Luke Stanton, Ollie Payne, Rhys Dainton, Liam Sweeney, Jake Holbrook, Jake Alderson, James Smith, Michael Williams, Kier Boyd, Ross Maddox and Adam Hallybone.
Congratulations and thanks also to the coaches Poric Sweeney, Paddy Stanton and Graham Hare. All those nights in the rain and cold have been worth it...
