Hitchin Town Youth U13 v Bedwell Rangers U13

Sunday, May 9 2010

It wasn't just Chelsea who went goal crazy last Sunday. In fact, Hitchin's under-13s surpassed the champions' eight goal blitz against Wigan Athletic to notch eleven in their penultimate game of the season.

A win ensured that Hitchin remained top of Royston Crow Division 1 for another week and a third or higher finish has now been secured.

Bedwell are usually competitive and started well against a home side which once again only had eleven fit players. The line-up was Luke McCabe in goal; Simmy Dhillon, Alfie Dinsey, Luke Stanton and Ollie Payne at the back; Rhys Dainton, Liam Sweeney, Jake Holbrook and James Smith across the middle, with Adam Hallybone and Ross Maddox up front.

The rest of the boys, Michael Williams, Jake Alderson and Kier Boyd, showed up for the game despite their injuries, thus demonstrating the tremendous team spirit in this squad.

Man-of-the-match Adam Hallybone got things moving with a terrific headed opener from a Jake Holbrook left-footed cross, then Ross made it two from a Rhys cross from the right.
More chances came before Rhys made it three and Bedwell pulled a goal back for 3-1 at half-time.

A clinical finish from Adam made it 4-1 and then the floodgates opened as Rhys, Ross again and Adam again took the score to seven before Bedwell punished some lax defending to make it 7-2. As the game wore on, more goals came from Liam Sweeney, Ross, Rhys (or possibly an own goal) and, yep, Ross again.

All the boys played well, but the injury curse hit Alfie in the second half, that's three groin injuries across the team now.
Let's hope as many of the boys as possible are fit for the final game of the season against high-fliers and former champions Baldock on Sunday (May 16th).

Do come along and support the boys. Whatever the final game brings, they deserve huge praise for their commitment and progress this season.
