The Hornets rounded off their league season in style with an outstanding away win and one of their best all-round performances of the season.
The first half was close and competitive but the Hornets more than held their own. Sam Hen was in inspired form in goal and made a brilliant double penalty save and foiled Royston three times from one-on-one situations. Jonathan and Olly were magnificent in defence and they were ably protected by Alex and Benjamin who tackled back and covered really well. Vinay and Ryan combined very well up front to pose lots of problems to the Royston defence.
Kicking uphill in the second half, the Hornets confounded the hosts with a great display of football. They went 1-0 up after five minutes. Alex released Ryan on the left, he crossed for Vinay, whose snapshot was parried by the keeper but William A arrived at the far-post to net the rebound. Five minutes later, it was 2-0 with, for the second week running, a wonder goal from Alex. From the corner of the box, he swung a boot at a short pass from William and the shot looped, curled and dipped into the far corner, leaving the Royston keeper dumbfounded.
Royston counter-attacked to try to pull a goal back but the back three of Jonathan, Olly and keeper Sam stood firm and guided the team to an impressive win.
The Hornets have rounded off the season with some very promising performances and results. Some good partnerships are developing and with a settled side, I think they can make the same rapid progress next season as the Hurricanes have done this season.
