Hitchin Hurricanes U9 v Bishops Stortford A

Saturday, May 1 2010

The Hurricanes signed off in their last home game of the season (and completed an unbeaten season at Fortress Ickleford) with a comfortable victory over Bishops Stortford.

The first half followed the pattern of many games this season. Hurricanes on top, territorially dominant, lots of half-chances created but no reward. Fortunately the second half also followed the season's pattern as the team cut loose to cruise to their 7th win in 8 home games.

Somerset put the team 1-0 up with a predatory finish after Sam K's cross was parried by the Stortford keeper. For the first time this season, Sam K didn't score but created Somerset's second with one of the assists of the season, collecting William's pass, beating his man and putting in a curling, pinpoint cross which Somerset met with a superb glancing header that looped over the keeper and into the top left-hand corner.

Somerset completed his hat-trick (and claimed his prize of new football boots, courtesy of his parents) with an unstoppable right-foot finish five minutes from the end.

Result: Hitchin Hurricanes U9s 3 Bishops Stortford A 0

Man of the match: Somerset - excellent front-running, some good lay-offs and a well-taken hat-trick.
