Hitchin Town Youth U13 v St.Neots Youth U13

Sunday, February 21 2010

A long way to go yet, but Hitchin's under-13s are on a good run and have moved up to third in the Royston Crow Division One.

This was a game where the right attitude was needed against fired up opponents, but ended up being one of the best displays of the season as our strong defending and quickfire attacking play paid dividends.

The game started with Luke McCabe returned to goalkeeper, Michael Williams at right back, Alfie Dinsey and Paddy Stanton in the middle and OIllie Payne at left back. Jake Holbrook continued in left midfield after his excellent display against Fairlands the week before, with Rhys Dainton on the right, Jake Alderson and Liam Sweeney sharing centre midfield and the hotshots Ross Maddox and Adam Hallybone up front.

Simmy Dhillon and Kier Boyd also played significant roles in the game, as Hitchin's tight 13 man squad was used smartly and efficiently.

Jake Alderson, who had a terrific game, set up Rhys for the opener, only for St Neots to equalise via some neat interplay on the edge of the box. But Hitchin always carried the greater attacking threat and a wonderful cross from Rhys was met by Ross Maddox for 2-1 at half time.

In the second half, Jake Alderson followed up on a saved Adam Hallybone shot for 3-1.

The home team were rocked a little when confusion at the back gave St Neots hope, bringing the score back to 3-2, but good spirit was shown from then on. Excellent counter-attacking play saw Rhys make it 4-2 and Ross get a double to complete his hat-trick.

Big game at home to Bishops Stortford next week to see if the challenge near the top of the table can be maintained.

Final Score: Hitchin Town Youth U13 6 St Neots Youth 2
