Hitchin kept pace with the leaders of Royston Crow Division One with this emphatic win over Fairlands.
Only four points separate the top five sides in this division, but games in hand and cup commitments mean it may be a while before a clear picture emerges.
All Hitchin can do is focus on each game and try to win, which they did very comfortably last weekend.
Playing neat football against a side that is still coming to terms with Division One, the boys raced into command early and only rarely let themselves be distracted.
Jake Holbrook, playing left midfield for the first time this season, opened the scoring with a thunderous drive. Adam Hallybone made it two, Jake H scored again and Ross Maddox played Adam in for his second all before half-time.
Hitchin blitzed the starts of the second period, taking the goal tally to five via Ross, and beyond with more goals from Rhys Dainton and Jake Alderson (two each).
Nine up, Hitchin took their foot off the gas. Minds wandered, some players became a little too eager to score or lost concentration, giving Fairlands the chance to nick back two goals - the second being an excellent individual effort.
But normal service was resumed late on with two more goals and a dominant if odd-looking final score in favour of the young canaries.
Finally, well done to Kier Boyd for filling in between the sticks with Luke McCabe away.
Hitchin has a small squad, but the season is shaping up well so far.
