Hitchin got back into league action with a thumping win over local rivals Wymondley Park.
The four-nil scoreline was kind on the visitors, who battled well but struggled throughout, leaving the under-13s with a record so far of seven wins from nine games in the Royston Crow Division One.
It is yet to be seen how much of a title challenge Hitchin can mount, but they are clearly in the pack of four or five teams that believe they can have a crack at it - this win lifting Hitchin into the pack behind leaders Bishops Stortford, with some games in hand.
The victory was built on a terrific defensive performance from Paddy Stanton and Alfie Dinsey in the centre, whilst Ollie Payne, Jake Holbrook, Michael Williams and Simmy Dhillon all played their part in rebuffing attacks whilst building Hitchin's thrilling forward play.
Rhys Dainton, having such a fine season on the right of midfield, carved the opening goal for Adam Hallybone, before helping himself to a goal of his own swiftly after.
In the second half, many chances went begging. The best goal of the game was Hitchin's third, when a precise pass from Jake Alderson allowed Rhys to fire in his second. Only one more goal was added from there, with shooting practice presumably being high on the agenda for the next training session.
